Having product visuals on an online sales site seems to go without saying. However, we sometimes tend to downplay the crucial role played by these visuals, so here are 4 reasons why you absolutely mustn’t neglect them.
1 – First impressions make all the difference
Beautiful visuals give a first impression of the quality of the products and the quality of the store. Remember the mail-order catalogs of the ’80s and ’90s, with their carefully staged photos to make the products look more real: when customers can’t see the product with their own eyes, they need to be able to imagine it as faithfully as possible. Numerous beautiful, high-definition photos also reinforce the salesperson’s image of seriousness, which can only reassure the customer.
2 – A better conversion rate
In addition to branding and credibility, a quality product visual guarantees a better conversion rate. For example, adding a zoom function or additional photos showing a product from different angles will be more convincing than a single small-format photo. If you can, opt for a 360-degree or 3D animation, or even a video. This is all the more important if the product is expensive or bulky, as the potential buyer will want to get a better impression before spending a large sum.
3 – More page views
As we mentioned earlier, the confidence needed before buying is also reflected in the number of pages visited. Quality photos will encourage your visitors to spend more time on your site, to click on more links and therefore increase your chances of a sale.
4 – Fewer returns thanks to product visuals
We tend to forget this parameter, but product returns represent a significant additional cost, in terms of both time and money. If a customer isn’t completely sure of his or her choice, it’s sometimes because of inaccurate or misleading photos. So include as many photos as possible: if you sell quality products, you have nothing to fear, and in any case: it’s in your interest.
More product images … and that’s it?
Of course, quality product images in large quantities aren’t everything. Don’t neglect the other aspects that can reassure your visitors (customer testimonials, privacy policy, multiple payment methods, fast and reliable delivery methods, etc.). But never forget that our first impressions are always visual, whether we like it or not. So, to increase your sales, start by reviewing your product visuals and asking yourself how you can improve them!
