Sales periods are always intense times for retailers.
On e-commerce sites, the number of visitors explodes, orders are more numerous… However, to make the most of sales, e-tailers need to anticipate.
They start preparing at least two to three months in advance by following these simple steps:
Choosing which products to sell
We all know that the sales period is an excellent way to sell off stocks of unsold products and old collections.
But by also selling off some new products and even some of your best-selling items, you’re guaranteed to attract a large audience and generate more sales.
However, regulations stipulate that retailers can only sell items that have been on sale for at least one month, under penalty of fine.
An effective tactic is to stagger sales of your flagship products, aimed at a wide audience, throughout the sales period.
To attract even more interest, you can combine them with other ongoing promotions.
Make sure you have enough stock
It would be a real shame to lose sales because you’re out of stock during the sales!
Keep a close eye on your merchandise stocks, and stock replacement items if necessary.
The words “In stock” or “Out of stock” are particularly appreciated by Internet users, who know immediately whether the product is available or not.
Product sheets for sale items
Certain information is mandatory on sale items: the reference price, the crossed-out price, the end date of the promotion and the wording “Soldes”.
This feature is integrated into the basic version of most e-commerce CMS.
The law does not impose any minimum or maximum discount percentage, but it is forbidden to sell products at a loss, i.e. for less than their purchase price.
Establish your price list in advance.
Draw up a communication plan to inform your customers of each new markdown according to the planned schedule.
Transform your site during sales
Plan a special graphic for the entire sales period: design, colors, buttons, typography, etc… The publication of a special catchphrase, acting as a slogan, is also often used by retailers.
Keep communicating!
Remind your customers of the sales period at least one week in advance.
Renew your reminder the day before the sales start.
Short messages are often the most effective!
And don’t forget to use social networks, excellent communication channels!
